“During the school holidays admissions and supportability requests may be delayed due to schools being closed in the UK and overseas. We shall endeavour to process admissions requests but cannot guarantee these will be processed before September when schools reopen. Those admission requests where we require the ability to gather further information from the pupil’s current school may only be possible in September.
Should we not be able to process your admissions request over the summer, an email will be sent to inform you of the delay.”
Hello, my name is Donna Bell. I am responsible for admissions and registration at Ayios Nikolaos Primary School.
My email address is: firstname.lastname@example.org and my phone number is: 00357 23957548
Starting at a new school or moving away from your current school can be a stressful time for children of all ages and their parents. My role is to look after children and their families on arrival at school, and also when leaving, to help all families make the transition as seamless as possible.
Please contact me on the above email address as soon as you know of your posting to Cyprus. The MoD has developed a Pupil Information Profile (PIP) for all Service children. The PIP needs to be completed by the child’s current school prior to a certificate of educational clearance being issued. The certificate of educational clearance is required for travel to Cyprus. It is advisable to apply for a school place as early as possible. The application process can take between 6-8 weeks and the school is only open to process applications during term time. Once we have issued a certificate, an appointment will be made for families to visit the School. After this induction visit, children are able to start school the next day.
The family’s induction includes completing any forms, a discussion about previous experiences at other schools and a tour of the school with the Head teacher.
Your child will meet their new teacher and new friends straight away so that when they start school the following day they feel more confident. Prior to this, where possible, we try to arrange a Skype video meeting between your child and their new class.
To help us help your children settle quickly we ask that you please bring the books, reports and assessment information from the previous school to the induction. This greatly assists the task of the teacher in assessing your child and enables him/her to match work to ability.
SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities)
The school is able to issue a Certificate of Educational Clearance during working days only. Please ensure you apply for your child’s place in Ayios Nikolaos Primary School in time, as a Certificate of Educational Clearance may not be issued during school holidays.
Please aim to send in your child’s admission forms by Monday 17th June for a September start. If your child has additional medical or Special Educational Needs, a MASO may need to take place before an Educational Clearance can be considered. Any admissions after this date, which require a MASO (MOD Assessment of Supportability Overseas), may result in children not receiving an Educational Clearance for a September start.
If any of your children have any Special Additional and Educational Needs, please make sure that you have registered with the Children’s Educational Advisory Service (CEAS). They will make sure that the support your child requires is in place wherever possible. CEAS can be contacted in the following ways:
Tel: +44 (0) 1980 61 8244 (Civ) or 94344 8244 (Mil)
Fax: +44 (0) 1980 61 8245 (Civ) or 94344 8245 (Mil)
I am sure that the information available on our website will help you to understand a little more about Ayios Nikolaos Primary School before your arrival. Please feel free to contact me at anytime.
